A digital identity solution
Rebuilding the demo platform, admin panel, and core app for 12iD, an all-in-one authentication solution for login, payments, and e-signing.
Background
12iD is an authentication solution offering an all-in-one mobile experience for login, payments, and electronic signing. As product designer, I was responsible for a range of projects across the ecosystem, from the sales team's demo platform to the core app used by end users. Below are four of the projects I led.
01 React Native app
The core 12iD app is used by partner companies' clients for onboarding, login, transactions, authentication, and signing. My role was to continuously review it, test it, design new features, and shape a development strategy.
Understanding the system
The app relies on machine learning and blockchain components, so I worked closely with engineering to understand what the technology could and couldn't do before proposing design solutions. I audited the existing Figma file, surfaced misalignments between the file and the shipped app, and flagged unclear or incomplete documentation, then built a prioritized list of requirements.
- Led competitor analysis and proposed the first round of qualitative research with end users, a gap that hadn't been addressed before.
- Designed the methodology and recruitment plan for that research.
- Delivered feature work in parallel: an improved Recovery Details flow, Live Biometrics instructions and illustrations, and ID-document capture frames for the ML pipeline.
02 Admin panel platform
The Admin Panel is the online platform where clients approve and manage the digital identities issued through the 12iD app.
Problem: the platform had been built by developers without design involvement. It had usability gaps, responsive issues, and didn't follow brand guidelines, on top of new features waiting to be built. My task was to set a roadmap: audit, test, propose changes, then design and prototype the new features.
Usability review & research
After auditing and testing the existing platform, I documented every issue and why it mattered, then proposed wireframed solutions. I walked the product team through my recommendations and we agreed on a plan of action before touching visual design.
Prototyping & testing
With usability fixes agreed, I moved on to brand alignment and responsiveness, and in parallel planned a round of user testing, defining a user profile, writing test scenarios, and recruiting participants who matched it. I built the working prototype in Figma, which now serves as the foundation for future design work at 12iD.
03 Democorp platform
The Democorp platform demonstrates to potential clients how the 12iD app would integrate with their systems. It exists as both a web platform and an app, and is used primarily by the sales team during demo sessions.
Problem: the app crashed often, and the platform wasn't responsive, so it couldn't reliably replace the live app during a client demo. My task was to rebuild a responsive Democorp platform in the shortest time possible, so sales could book demos again.
Wireframing, in sync with development
Keeping a tight loop with the development team was essential. We held regular working sessions to align on decisions as we went, rather than handing off a finished spec, which kept everyone on the same page and the project on track. The result: full implementation in three weeks.
04 Company webpage
One of my later projects was updating the 12iD website to make the technology, product, and company clearer to potential clients, and more compelling to investors.
Research, analysis & prioritization
I started by defining who the webpage actually serves: primarily potential clients and investors, but also prospective employees and end users of the app. I ran a mixed-method research plan (interviews, surveys, observation, data, and competitor analysis) to find out what was unclear or missing on the current site.
An affinity diagram turned the qualitative findings into clear areas of concern, which I paired with a prioritized list of opportunities, ranked by value and effort. After aligning with the CEO and sales team on the findings, I designed and implemented the update directly on the company's Squarespace platform.
